Link exchange

There is a common misconception that by adding outbound links to a site will have a negative impact on the SEO of a website. The only instance this is true is if you are adding more than 30 – 40 outbound links per web page or if you are linking to an unrelated or penalized site.

Quality not quantity

Many designers choose to spend time linking to general directories as they often do not require a reciprocal link. However there are a number of issues that make this a less attractive idea. Apart from taking months to add your site, if at all, general directories are so general that there is a big question if they actually help the SEO of your site at all, with the exception of DMOZ and Yahoo Directory.

As most web designers / SEO experts know the more relevant a site is to theirs, the more of an impact it will have. Being a web design directory is good, being a web design directory specifically aimed at your area couldn’t be better!
