Good use of content in website design

Good use of content in website design and the keywords involved within that text can be the difference between a good site and a great site. This not only applies to the visitor reading it, it also applies to Google's algorithm.

Google's algorithm is the process in which the search engine determines how valuable a website is by sending out Googlebots and spiders that will crawl through all aspects of your site including the content.

This is very important to website owners who wish to be found in Google's organic searches. Simply put, the better use of content and the keywords used within, the more likely a website is to be found and attract more visitors and potential customers.

The ability to write good content and use it in such a way that maximises the chances of being found on a search engine is a large part of SEO (search engine optimisation).

Companies quite often spend large amounts of money to website designers and SEO experts to improve their website in the hope that their site will be found. However lots of companies are unaware that although these experts can certainly increase their chances of their website being found there is no guarantee that their site will reach page one for any large searches.

Websites that have not been optimised by a website designer and has no good content stand no chance of reaching high volumes of traffic through Google.

How do web designers and SEO agencies improve your content?

A common mistake made by less experienced web designers who attempt to manipulate SEO, is to list the keywords, and sometimes at the bottom of the screen. However Google's algorithm cannot be tricked.

Google has the ability to read if the grammar used in the website, and judge whether it is good. Therefore lists are in fact seen as a bad use of grammar and will be penalised.

The other mistake is that most of the keywords you wish to be found in Google with should be closer to the start of the web page.

keyword density is another important factor. Using the same keyword over and over can be seen as spamming, however not using it enough and your website will not be found. A rough guide to keyword density would to be use a two word phrase no more than 3 or 4% and a three word phrase even less. There are tools that will allow you to check the keyword density of your site that can easily be found on Google. These keywords can also be found in all the META tags, titles and headings.

Obvious ways to improve your content is to check your spelling and grammar.

Reaching a high position in a Google search will need more than just good content, however there are other ways for your website to reach high volumes of traffic. The answer is simple, the more content and keywords found on a site means that it can be found on more types of keyword phrases on Google.

Those phrases may not be that popular, however thousands of keywords on a site may bring thousands of visitors through many types of searches, rather than just the one.
